Jeeping today. To town to get bag lunchs. Then on to Red Mountain near Ouray. Still too much snow once off the paved road. Oh well, try another jeep road. Decided to try Ophir Pass and on to
Telluride. This road was traveled more and was open. Pass was
almost a tunnel thru the snow. People skiing at the pass. Then down the famous drop off into Ophir. Talked to other people and they said Don Stott, once a mover and shaker in Silverton, now lived in Montrose. Old Ophir was in the
middle of a building boom. 20 or so new houses going up. Investigated the Ophir Loop train bed. A washout has cut off a big part of the lower road. On to Telluride.
Terribly crowded. Didn't stop. No place to park. It's
as bad as Aspen now. Back to Ophir , up and over the jeep road and back to camp.
Cleaned up and talked to camp neighbors about our friend from
prior visits. The campground host, Terrible Tom, for ten or so
years had dropped out of sight. The new camp hosts were great
though. Even folded the new TP rolls into points (like big hotels)
in the outhouse. Dinner and to bed. 40 degrees at bedtime.
